Matthew Chua Shi Jie is Associate of RCL Chambers Law Corporation. As the firm’s first practice trainee and one of its founding members, Matthew was instrumental in helping to set up the firm in record time alongside his practice training, by drawing on his previous working experience as an administrative assistant and administrative executive in leading property management consultancy firms.
As a go-getter, Matthew actively sought out real-world working experience beyond what was required of him under the school’s legal clerkship programme, by working as a paralegal/legal executive at other law firms for a cumulative period of 2.5 years whilst undertaking his Bachelor of Laws degree. During this period, Matthew acquired in-depth knowledge in corporate secretarial filings, trademark registrations, due diligence searches and conveyancing completions under the tutelage of senior practitioners who found “[his] enthusiasm admirable”.
During his practice training, Matthew was part-called and attended several Court hearings at the District Court and the General Division of the High Court under the supervision of our lawyers. In particular, he attended before the District Court in a disposal inquiry for a Dutch entity who was defrauded approximately EUR 250,000 and successfully obtained an order for the return of these monies to the client.
In school, Matthew was the Head (Clinics) of the Executive Committee of the Pro Bono Student Group and assisted the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS) Fellows under the Law Society’s CLAS during his legal clerkship programme.
